Dr. G Makeup Artist’s Simple Smoke Eye featuring Artistry, MAC, NYX, Milani and Sigma

Dr. G Makeup Artist’s Simple Smoke Eye featuring Artistry, MAC, NYX, Milani and Sigma

Hey Beauties,

After posting a selfie on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, I received many positive responses as well as questions. I responded to a few inquiries but decided to write a blog post to answer all questions.

1. Was this edited in photoshop? Is there a filter on it?

The answer is no, there is no filter or editing done to this photo. It’s a reflection of strong makeup skills that I honed and developed over the years. The key to great photos is using proper tools and skill, ultimately creating your vision. Note, I don’t want you to believe that expensive brushes will make you a great artist.

Sure a great artist can use sub par tools to create strong work but using proper tools gets the job done effectively. Picasso could have used his fingers to paint Guernica but instead, brushes helped him accomplish his vision rather than using his fingers. Therefore, one should invest in proper brushes.

For this particular photograph, I applied my tinted moisturizer using MAC Cosmetics 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush. This is my go-to foundation brush because it has natural and synthetic fibers which aids in producing an airbrush finish. For highlighting with concealer, I used the beauty blender, which I’ve raved about in previous posts. For powder, I use the ELF Studio Powder Brush. For a price of $3, it’s a staple in my kit. Once I put it into motion, the flat head glides the powder over my entire face, giving it a smooth even distribution of product. For my cheeks, I used the  Sigma Beauty F15 Duo Fibre Powder Brush and  the F40 Large Angle Contour Brush. I use the F15 for highlighting and bronzing, and the F40 for blushing and contouring.

So there you have it, my 5 face staple tools that make people think I used Adobe Photoshop.
