19 Apr Saturday Skincare: Mario Badescu Skincare Review

Today’s Saturday Skincare is dedicated to my quest for banishing acne. As a woman with combination-oily skin, I have researched several products containing key ingredients that target acne. I recently received a sample package from the highly recommended Mario Badescu skincare. The package contained a product application guide suited for my skin type. As with many sample products I receive, I used Mario Badescu skincare for a total of 6 weeks to get the full effect of usage.
I received an adequate variety of recommended products to try including Almond & Honey Non-Abrasive Face Scrub, Cucumber Tonic Mask, Drying Cream, Enzyme Cleansing Gel, Hyaluronic Eye Cream, Hydro Moisturizer with Vitamin C, Seaweed Night Cream, and Special Cucumber Lotion.
I followed the following regimen:
Mornings: Cleansed my face and neck with enzyme cleansing gel. This is a staple product of Mario Badescu because it is formulated with alpha hydroxy acids that help break down any build up and also cleanses as well as removes makeup and dirt without drying the skin. After cleansing, I toned my face by applying the special cucumber lotion (astringent) to cotton and rubbed it on my face and neck in an outward direction, avoiding the eyes. It’s important to use an astringent after cleansing because it fights existing blemishes and prevents further breakout [ I needed this!] Lastly, I applied the hydro moisturizer with vitamin C to my face and neck.
During the evenings, I used the enzyme cleansing gel to remove the days makeup, followed by special cucumber lotion. Then applied the hyaluronic eye cream around the eyes, and seaweed night cream on my face and neck. The hyaluronic acid helps to lock in moisture without the greasy appearance.
Every 2 days, after cleansing, I used the Almond & Honey Non-Abrasive Face Scrub and I used the Cucumber tonic mask once a week. The Almond & Honey is a heavenly scented exfoliator containing tiny clumps of almond. The Cucumber tonic mask dries on the face and neck after letting it sit for 10 minutes and cleans pores. It’s always good to use a deep pore cleansing mask or treatment to remove excess dirt left in my pores. I typically use a mask once a week as I don’t want to dry out my skin too much, since I don’t want sand paper skin.
After 1 week of use, my pores were less visible and my skin appeared less dull.
Attention Acne Prone Skin: The Drying Lotion was my fav! By the 3rd week, I developed breakouts likely due to hormonal changes, and needed a fix. Afterall, who wants to go to work with gritty looking skin? I applied the Drying lotion to my tiny clusters of bumps as well as my free standing pimples (my mum calls them love bumps). The salicylic acid, calamine, and zinc oxide helped dry out my bumps. By the next morning, my bumps and surrounding inflammation was reduced significantly. Being the scientist, that I claim to be, I applied the drying lotion to my blackheads and white heads and behold, it zapped most of them away after 1 day of use.
As with any review, you must wonder which products I’ve decided to add to my regimen. To combat my seasonally erupting acne, I purchased the Drying lotion. I also purchased the chamomile eye cream (didn’t sample it, but my skin has benefitted from chamomile in the past) and the chamomille night cream (didn’t sample it but I love the anti-oxidant goodness of chamomile), and the Cucumber tonic mask. What I like most about Mario Badescu is that these products are reasonably priced for great quality, afterall, I saw a drastic change in my skin after 1 week. Stay tuned for more Dr. G Reviews.
